I will never forget the night that my drunk stepfather landed a fierce right hook on my mother’s mouth. He busted both her lips wide open. As she fell to the ground, she grabbed my comforter and held it to her face. Days later she did her best to scrub the blood out of my sheets but there was one stubborn spot that refused to leave.
It’s incredible how 1 night, 5 innocent minutes can be the hardest to forget.
I’ve spent the majority of my life – depressed, anxious, suicidal, angry, enraged, alone, ashamed, terrorized and confused.
I’ve worked my a** off to create a life different from the one I was born into.
Alcohol and drug addiction destroyed my family.
I refuse to let it get it’s hands on me!
I want to reach out to other survivors of chaos, abuse and dysfunction so I created Growing up Chaotic.
It is my mission with Growing up Chaotic to provide –
- Hope and
To YOU, the one that is determined to SURVIVE and THRIVE despite growing up in toxicity – i.e. a childhood immersed in alcohol, drugs and physical, emotional or mental abuse.
My goal is to create a community hell bent on breaking, cracking and demolishing the cycle of dysfunction.
“The only source of knowledge is experience” Albert Einstein
How? By sharing candidly about my personal experiences growing up with alcoholic, abusive and emotionally absent parents. Yup, my birth parents divorced and found people that were just as dysfunctional as they were. Oh, did I mention that I also have 2 addicted brothers and drug abuse, alcoholism and chaos, running hot and heavy, on both sides of my family? I guess you can say I was born into the winners circle.
Growing up Chaotic provides a fresh and modern approach to healing.
Growing up Chaotic is for anyone that has been directly or indirectly affected by an alcoholic or drug addict.
My commitment to you, through my blog and radio show, is to keep it candid and real. I don’t have all of the answers but I believe that my personal experiences, ups and downs, mistakes and victories can help you move FORWARD in your life.
Your past is not your future and you have nothing to feel ashamed or guilty about.
It’s time to introduce new positive possibilities into your life.
If I can break the cycle – so can you.
