Go ahead and pick all that apply.
I have huge trust issues.
My _______ (fill in the blank) is an alcoholic so I try not to trust him/her so much.
I struggle with trusting myself.
I meet great _________(fill in the blank) but I just don’t trust them.
Yep. We ACOAs have all sorts of trust issues. We don’t trust: ourselves, our family, the world, co-workers and on and on.
Given the circumstances we grew up in, it makes total sense that trust and trusting people wouldn’t be an easy thing to do, right?
But when you keep tripping over trust your life becomes much smaller and complicated then it needs to be.
And ultimately, if you can’t open yourself up enough to trust others, you’ll end up becoming BFFs with this pesky thing called loneliness. And we do not want that to happen to you.
That’s why I’m digging into the topic of trust today.
Based off of my own issues (yes, I have them too) I’ve come up with 4 lessons I’ve learned during my “learning to trust” journey that may just inspire you to open up.
After you’ve finished watching today’s video, I want to hear from you in the comment section below. Tell me where and when you find it most difficult to trust. What are you afraid will happen if you open up?
Your voice, experiences and insights are vital to this community. And what you have to share is not only unique but it may be exactly what someone else needs to read. And that someone could be you.
As always, thank you for watching, sharing and commenting.
Until Next Tuesday,
P.S. If you know of another ACOA that would dig today’s post, share it with them.
